TIP Quezon City granted AUTONOMOUS status
and
TIP Manila DEREGULATED status by CHED
The Technological Institute of the Philippines – Quezon City (TIPQC) was recently granted autonomous status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
The autonomous status, the highest and most prestigious recognition that CHED gives to an educational institution, is in recognition of TIPQC’s exemplary performance shown in the provision of quality higher education, research and extension work.
According to TIP President, Dr. Elizabeth Q. Lahoz, “The granting of autonomous status to our school is, in a way, a recognition of all the hard work of the TIP officers, faculty and staff to give only the best to our students.”
CHED grants the autonomous status to private higher education institutions (PHEIs) that pass the strict criteria set by the Commission based, among others, on the educational institution’s number and level of accredited programs, its number of centers of excellence (CHED-COE) or development (COD) programs, as well as the school’s international or national recognitions for excellence.
TIPQC has two programs with Level III Reaccredited status (Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering) and six programs with Level II Reaccredited Status from the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines – Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (FAAP-PACUCOA). The school is also a CHED-COD in Computer Engineering as well as in Information Technology Education. The school's quality management system is certified under the international standard ISO 9001:2000 and earlier, to ISO 9001:1994, for 10 consecutive years now.
As a school with autonomous status, TIPQC is now exempted from CHED’s issuance of Special Orders for its graduates, and enjoys the privilege to determine and prescribe curricular programs in the undergraduate and graduate levels. It could also establish branches or satellite campuses, offer extension classes to expand access to higher education, and establish linkages with recognized foreign higher education institutions without the need for prior approval from CHED.
The Technological Institute of the Philippines – Manila (TIP Manila), on the other hand, was granted deregulated status by CHED.
Like in the granting of the autonomous status, the CHED grants deregulated status to a school that passes the strict criteria set by the commission. TIP Manila has six programs with Level II Reaccredited Status, among other accredited programs from FAAP-PACUCOA. TIP Manila is also a CHED COD in Computer Engineering and Information Technology Education. TIP Manila’s Quality Management System is also certified to the international standard ISO 9001:2000 and earlier, ISO 9001:1994, for 10 years now.
As a deregulated school, TIP Manila, is similarly exempted from the issuance of Special Orders for its graduates, and enjoys the privilege to determine and prescribe curricular programs to achieve global competence.
CHED’s granting of autonomous and deregulated status is aimed at recognizing deserving PHEIs that have consistently shown exemplary performance in the provision of education, research and extension services, and at the same time rationalizing supervision of PHEIs through progressive deregulation.
