TIP Teams Up with International Scientific Organization in Disaster Risk Reduction Forum
The Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) recently collaborated with Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI), a non-profit international scientific organization, in conducting a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Forum at the TIP Quezon City Anniversary Hall. TIP engineering students, faculty members, and officers attended the forum.
The forum aimed to develop and exchange knowledge on sound urban risk reduction practices in fast-growing cities. EMI Chairman and Executive Director Dr. Fouad Bendimerad presented a lecture entitled “Building a Disaster Resilient Metro Manila”. During the presentation, Dr. Bendimerad discussed EMI’s research concerning earthquake risk assessment and impact reduction study in Metro Manila. Dr. Bendimerald also talked about what local governments can do to promote a safer environment and the critical role of an engineering school such as TIP in disaster risk reduction.
The forum enabled TIP students to understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.
