T.I.P. Engineers escape Black Mamba, move on to PBA D-League Semis

The T.I.P. Engineers took down Black Mamba in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup quarterfinals 82-71 on Monday, September 16, 2019, at the Paco Arena, to secure their spot in the playoff semis.

Engineers center Papa Ndiaye led the team once more with his 22 points and nine rebounds. Rey de Mesa pitched in 12 points, four boards, and three dimes, while Bryan Santos contributed 10 points in the win.

The T.I.P. Engineers held a comfortable 30-14 lead in the second quarter, but Black Mamba trimmed it down to just three, 52-49, to end the third. The Engineers then went on an 8-0 run, 60-49, with 7:26 left in the final quarter, putting the game just out of reach of their matchup.

T.I.P. Engineers head coach Potit de Vera was ecstatic, saying “These are very exciting times for the T.I.P. community as our T.I.P. Engineers reached two historic milestones this year: the first time T.I.P. has joined the PBA D-League as a school-based team; and in its infancy, has already journeyed so far for a shot at the PBA D-League Championship.”

“We will try to slay a giant in Marinerong Pilipino with their imposing, veteran lineup. Still, I will personally guarantee that the T.I.P. Engineers shall play with the #TIPpride as we have always done since 2012. We will make sure to take care of even the smallest things so we can accomplish even greater feats,” Coach de Vera added.

T.I.P. will be facing Marinerong Pilipino Skippers on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at the Pasig Ynares Sports Arena for the start of their best-of-three semifinals series. The second game will be on September 23, 2019 at the Paco Arena, while the third game—if necessary—will be on September 26, 2019 back at the Ynares Sports Arena.
